When China Met AfricaConvener: Connor Bralla
When China Met Africa is a 2010 documentary film by British filmmakers Nick and Marc Francis. Set in Zambia, the film offers a close-up view of China’s expansion into Africa through the eyes of three principal characters. The first two are both Chinese men who have come to Zambia in search of economic opportunities, one having bought several farms and the other working for a Chinese firm building roads with government financial support. The third character is the Zambian minister of commerce, who treks back and forth between China and Zambia attempting to encourage investment in his country. The film sheds light on such issues as the dynamics between Zambian workers and their foreign employers, as well as the social position occupied by Chinese migrants in their new home.
