With the government’s one-child policy, the only way to keep the child is to first divorce and then remarry after the birth of the baby. It seems like a perfect idea, but after the divorce, the ex-husband decides to marry another woman. Furious, Li Xuelian wants to declare the separation a sham so that she can get a proper divorce. She decides to seek redress from local, uncaring politicians and sets off on a legal crusade which will take her all the way up to Beijing.
